We went to San Diego last weekend. We were going to stay a little longer, but Alexis decided she was having none of it. We checked out Sea World and spent a bit of time at the beach.

Back from Greece

We got back from a couple weeks in Greece. Still recovering a bit from that flight, a bit too long for my taste. Trip was good, we took Alexis to meet her Great Grandmother in Corinth, and we stayed at Dina's Aunt and Uncles new house, also in Corinth. Weather was pretty good considering what time of the year we went, we had some decent beach weather. Tourist and vacation season was over so most of the beaches were pretty much empty. We rented a car and I got to drive in Greece for the first time. Driving in Greece is a bit like what I imagine a rally car race would be like. Anywho... we took some pictures; although like usual, Dina and I didn't take pictures very often.

Finally made it up to the San Francisco Zoo. Alexis had a great time at the petting Zoo and I got to see the killer tigers.

We went to Woodlake to visit my sister and celebrated my nieces 4th birthday. Alexis is getting better about traveling in the car for long distances. Alexis got to meet Whiskey (the horse), and some chickens.

We all went down to Happy Hollow for some fun at the petting zoo. It was a little out of season so the park was not at full operation, but I think we'll be going back again once the weather is better.

Thanksgiving

We went home to Exeter for Thanksgiving, it's the first time I've been home for Thanksgiving in awhile. The drive wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, once we got Alexis asleep. The next day we went to YiaYia's house for Thanksgiving day after. Over all everything went well. And of course I've uploaded more photos.

Just a quick post. Alexis is doing well. She is on the move and into things, really keeping Dina and I on our toes. I even have a couple pictures of her helping out around this house. I took these of her "helping out" with her diapers.

At the Cabin

We went to the Papapasomas cabin this weekend. It was Alexis' first long trip in the car. She was not happy. As always the cabin was nice and relaxing and Alexis got to spend a lot of time with Grandma and Grandpa. I don't know why we don't go more often. Alexis is on the move constantly. Now that she can crawl she is all over the place. I need to start baby proofing. I've upload some recent photos.

This past Saturday Alexis was baptized at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and we had a nice reception afterward at Hotel DeAnza. Thanks to everyone who came and helped celebrate the occasion.

Alexis is doing well and growing fast. She just turned 5 months old and she has her first tooth coming in. We are getting ready for the baptism in July and staying busy with Alexis. Home Sweet Home

We brought Alexis home from the hospital yesterday. It's great being home. Everyone at the hospital was very helpful, and it was reassuring having a nurse there for the first 4 days to answer questions but it's nice being home where we are use to everything and not around a bunch of strangers. I've uploaded some more photos from various people's cameras. Everyone keeps asking how it feels, its a bit surreal. Everything is so new, and we worry about everything. So while we are very very happy and excited, we are also worried that we are doing thing correctly and still a little intimidated by how fragile she looks. As we get more comfortable we will be able to enjoy it more, so even though we look a little in shock, inside our hearts are singing.

Dina and I are now proud parents of our baby Alexis. Just a quick note as it's a bit hectic and we are both pretty tired. Alexis was born 8.4 pounds and 19.5 inches long.
Dina and Alexis are both doing well, we have a couple more days at the hospital. I'll post more info later.

Linux Desktop

I've got my desktop in pretty good shape these days (work desktop). Posting a snap shot. I'm running Ubuntu and using the Citrix ICA client to run windows apps on my Linux box when needed, for example; Outlook and IE running on my desktop. I work for Citrix so we have just about every windows app you could want running on presentation server. When I do come across a situation where I need to run a windows app, I can still do it with my Linux box. I'm using Beryl & XGL for my window manager, so I get all kinds of 3d effects and true transparency as you can see by my terminal window and I'm running conky on my root window to do all my system monitoring.

Pregnancy Classes

Dina and I spent the weekend attending some classes preparing us for the delivery (he he he whoo... he he he whoo). It was informational, but the videos made me queasy. Why you would volunteer to make one of those videos is beyond me. I learned a few things, but I think a lot of it is just on the job training. Anywho.... 10 weeks and counting. I hear the vegas odds on me passing out at some point are 3 to 1.

Tired of travel

Last month and a half I've been to New York and Orlando, and I'm a bit tired of traveling right now. I had a battle with the TSA and United Airlines over a jar of jelly that I bought at the airport that I would not have had to go through security with if United Airlines had not missed my connecting flight. Ever try to check a 5 oz. jar of jelly... they were not amused. The jar of jelly and I made it to San Jose, while my checked luggage went to San Francisco.... go figure.

About 6 months ago I heard about this site called Prosper.

Its a P2P lending site. Very interesting idea. I decided I would lend a small amount of money to try it out and see how it works. I've been lending money for about 6 months now. I have about 45 loans that I'm participating in. It's still a bit early but so far its been working out pretty well. You don't lend out the entire loan amount, you are just one of many that lend on a loan. So for example; a $10,000 loan at 15% interest I'll bid $50 dollars on, spreading your risk across many loans to protected against defaults. Prosper is licensed as a lender in all 50 states and there are a couple collection agency you sign up with that will go after the dead beats. Like I said, its still early, but so far its been working out well. I have an average interest rate of 16.01% across all my loans with only a single loan that is 2 months late. There are a couple that go 15 days late every month, but then are always paid up to date plus a late fee. I think it's an interesting idea, we'll see how it works in the long run.

Just got back from NY. Weather was great, but Dina and I stayed at the same hotel used by a lot of the people from the UN meetings and the Clinton Foundation so there was security everywhere. It made it a bit of a pain to go in and out (closed down the street so we could not catch cabs). I was standing in the lobby next to Jesse Jackson one morning, if I had more respect for him I might have tried to talk to him.

House Work

Moving Servers Again!

Ok I'm tired of managing my own server (just not geeky enough anymore), as a result, I'm moving to a public site so I no longer have to maintain a server, plus I don't get free server hosting anymore since I left AboveNet. Anywho, I'll be moving everything over to this format, including the photo album in the coming months.
